Darah Lace

I would like to thank Ms Lace for taking the time to do an interview for Seriously. We recently posted a review for Saddle Broke and loved it so much that we wanted to know more about the author. So without further ado, I give you the talented Darah Lace!

What is your favorite thing about being a romance writer?
Escapism—while writing, I’m able to escape reality and live in the fantasy, just as I would when reading. The difference is, I get to decide where the fantasy goes. I can make it as emotional or as sexy or as whatever as I want it. The characters’ fates are in my hands.

What was the hardest part of writing your book?
Finding the time to write it. I might be a SAHM but I also work out of my house. Between my job and my family, I stay pretty busy. And then there’s the research. BDSM hasn’t found its way into my personal life...yet...so, other than using my imagination, I rely on the Internet for just the right techniques and equipment, which after hours and hours of browsing, I get a little worn out.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?
I’m definitely a pantser. For me, plotting takes the fun out of writing the story. I get bored. The story is told, at least in my mind, and I’m done. That said, I usually know where I want to go. It’s the “means of transportation”—how the characters find their way to that destination—that keeps me interested.

How much time did it take from writing your first book to having it published?
LOL My first book will never be published. It’s 800 pages of characters who meander from one scene to the next without accomplishing anything interesting. There were a few moments of good writing but even I become bored with hot sex if the story doesn’t work.

What sound drives you crazy?
The beeping noise my car makes when it thinks someone is sitting in the passenger seat and isn’t wearing a seatbelt. My purse isn’t THAT heavy.

If you were a tool, what would people use you for?
A ceiling fan. I’m always running around in circles.

What’s the perfect romantic evening?
I’ve always been a cheap date. Dinner and a movie and a little cuddling does it for me.

What’s for dinner tonight?
Whatever drive-thru the car decides to turn into. This time of year is really busy for me. We’re on the go so much that fast food is a given. I’m thinking Taco Bell tonight.

If you were a superhero, what special power would you have?
I’d direct traffic with my mind. I don’t deal well with road rage. I’m pretty mild mannered but put me behind the wheel and I become a maniac. People just don’t realize I have the right of way even when I’m wrong. 

  4. Hey lady
Taco Bell sounds good. Pick me up a taco too or better yet, pick up a hot Latino to cook it for us. Bronzed, muscular, with a delicious accent...

  5. Fun interview. Being a SAHM does not mean you are without a job. Glad for the readers that you manage to write at all. Saddle Broke is in my TBR pile. Need to move it up because everyone says it is great. Happy Mother's Day.
